- LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
  Members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish family serve our community by participating in the liturgy as:

  SACRISTAN MINISTRY
  A sacristan serves the parish community in a valuable role by making physical preparations for the liturgy, assisting with needs before and during Mass and in attending to necessary details as the liturgy concludes. Because of the many details which sacristans are responsible for, it is vitally important that you are here for your scheduled times. Arrive an hour before Mass. Please find a substitute if you are unable to be here.
  Assisting the altar servers and other liturgical ministers with directions or questions. Sacristans ensure that all liturgical positions are filled for the Mass.
  LITURGICAL ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY
  Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Liturgical Environment Ministry is dedicated to serve the parish in preparing an atmosphere for worship that will invite the community to raise their hearts and minds to God in full, conscious, and active participation. The goal of this ministry is to care for all the elements of worship ensuring that the liturgical environment is appropriate, authentic, beautiful, and accessible. “Indeed, the nature and beauty of the place and all its furnishings should foster devotion and express visually the holiness of the mysteries celebrated there” (General Instructions of the Roman Missal 294).
  The liturgical year begins on the first Sunday of Advent. It is divided into the following six seasons: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, and Easter.

  LECTOR MINISTRY
  A lector is the person who proclaims the first or second reading at Mass. The lector must believe that Sacred Scripture is the Word of God and have deep respect for God’s presence in that Word.
  
  EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY
  Eucharistic Ministers prayerfully serve the people of St. Francis of Assisi by distributing Body and Blood of Christ during Eucharistic celebrations.
  
  ALTAR SERVER MINISTRY
  Altar Servers are close to the altar as they serve the priest. Our young altar servers wear the robe of baptism (the alb), which is a sign of their position in the community as baptized people. They help the priest at the altar as it is prepared for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
  
  HOSPITALITY MINISTRY
  Ministers of hospitality are hosts and hostesses, welcoming people as they gather to celebrate in the Mass. They are usually the first formal representatives of the parish encountered by worshippers as they enter the Church.
  
  MUSIC MINISTRY
  “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”. Ephesians 5:19

  HOMEBOUND MINISTRY
  Our ministers to the homebound bring the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist to our brothers and sisters who are unable to join us at Mass. They minister to the homebound (and their families) through prayer and presence.

  FUNERAL MINISTRY
  The Funeral Ministry at St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a service of presence and assistance to the grieving in their time of need. The parish staff, beginning with Fr. Alberto, assist the family with planning the Catholic funeral Mass and the selection of Scripture readings, music, and family participation.
  The parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi minister by assisting at the funeral Mass as adult altar servers and hospitality ministers. When needed they also will serve as cantor, lector, and Eucharistic ministers. To sign up as a liturgical minister for funerals, contact the office at (989) 752-1971.
  We pray, serve, and assist the family in praying their family member home to eternal life. It is a time to help those who are hurting to know the love and comfort of God through the care and support of the community.
